Do you decorate inside your cabinets and drawers?
I do!
I do it solely for my own benefit, and not for others, after all, no one else sees it.
Well, that is, until now.
Oh, and except for my cat, but she’s a harsh critic so I hope you all will be more kind.
On a tangent of this same subject ~ I don’t look in the cabinets and drawers of others when I’m out visiting folks, except in a toilet paper emergency, mostly because I’m pretty sure without asking the question that most people do not decorate the insides of their cupboards like I do, so for me there would be nothing to see. I’ve heard that some people look in drawers and cabinets as a kind of hobby when they are out at other people’s homes. I found a guest doing it once at my house and was surprised they were so blatant. I’ve suspected others have done it at my place because things were moved around but I have never been inclined to do it myself. On tv, in crime shows, a frequent investigative tool is to look into a medicine cabinet for clues. If I ever get investigated in this way I wonder what the investigator would learn from my medicine cabinet?
Why am I telling you this? Well, beauty bloggers take selfies in the bathroom mirror, usually located on the medicine cabinet, all the time and I realized that I don’t want to see their makeup so much or their new hairdo, but rather, I want to see behind the bathroom mirror. And this got me thinking…
I may not wear makeup except for #beautycounter lipstick that I get from my beautiful cousin Nikki! You should be aware that you can get Beautycounter lipstick through her too. Her name is Nicolette Ower when you check out, please use her as your consultant. Thank you. But, back to what I was saying, I still have to get ready in the morning. I hesitate to call it a beauty routine, it’s not even a cutie routine, but it is a routine for facing the day nonetheless.
Of the few products that I do use, I only use products that do not give me a migraine headache. I am a lifelong migraine sufferer, a migraineur, and as such I am highly sensitive to chemicals and other odors and I cannot use most common beauty and body care products as a result. I can’t go into some stores such as certain Mall Shops without becoming nauseated and dizzy. So when I find a product that I can use I get really excited! Besides BeautyCounter lipstick, and Doterra shampoo, (I can sell you Doterra products if you message me www.mydoterra.com/karenenglandsshop but you probably know someone who is a Doterra “Smellness” Advocate like myself and they can get you shampoo, just ask them!) most recently I discovered Jo Malone products do not give me a headache. Hallelujah! It’s been 10 years or more since I had a perfume or cologne that didn’t make me sick! I learned to make my own products over the years, tailoring my homemade soaps, lotions, ointments and salves to my needs and sensitivities. Even though I don’t wear makeup and I have a record breaking one-minute cutie routine in the morning that consists of combing my wet hair, rolling on natural Dr. Hauschka deodorant available on Amazon (not anti-perspirant; you need to perspire for good health you just don’t want to smell bad doing it), and putting on lipstick after my shower, where I washed my hair and brushed my teeth, and before getting dressed. That said, I still manage to have a well stocked medicine cabinet. That’s because I have items inside it that inspire me to go on with my day, any given day, and not give up. I have items that remind me of people that I want to make proud with my life. I decorate the inside of my cabinets with inspirational quotes and funny sayings . . .
Thank you Mary Engelbreit!
When I open my medicine cabinet it smells sweet, of lavender, roses, mint, and pine and just smelling it makes me feel happy even if I don’t use any of it but only grab a q-tip.
Do you decorate the inside of your cabinets? (I do it in the kitchen too!) Or am I the only one? Do you need more than makeup and coffee to face the day, like seeing a photo or object or reading a quote or verse to help you persevere into the coming 24 hours? This begs the rhetorical question “what’s in your cabinet”? I don’t mean for you to show your medicine cabinet to the world as I have, but rather to encourage you to look at yours to see what’s there. Is it uplifting you and helping you be healthy and motivated and have a great day? Or is it full of things that drag you down, possibly making you sick, or depleting your resources and sapping your precious time? Thought about in that way, would you want to use your cabinet?
Not in the cabinet itself but by the door as I come and go from the restroom are three tiny pictures, the middle one was my grandmother’s, the bottom one was a gift from my mother and the top one a gift from a dear friend. I read them repeatedly throughout the day, thanking God for the icons of beauty in my life, beauty inside and out, of family and friends dear to me, and this is what I aspire to be like with my life so maybe I do have a beauty routine.
