Yesterday, with the help of @karonlauradeleon who is a hero in my life, I knocked a 50 year plus goal off the list when we walked in the Navy’s 36th Bay Bridge Run/Walk over the Coronado Bridge. We were with 9000 other folks who trekked the 4 mile route from downtown San Diego to Coronado Island (I know it’s really a peninsula…) It’s a one way walk over the bridge and you take a shuttle back . . . with all the other 9000 participants. I went to Killeen, Texas on this trip because it is the town where I was born. I finally got to learn firsthand about the place, that, although I was born there, I had never been to up until today. Fitting since today is my birthday! Killeen is the military town near Fort Hood where my dad was stationed back in 1959. I have no ties to the area other than it’s my birthplace but I found a tree that will be from now on my heritage family tree. #edgehillherbfarmontheroad #itsmybirthdaytoday #killeentexas #forthoodtx #camphoodtexas

It is my habit that when I travel, I visit cemeteries and graveyards. Do any of you do this as well? People are constantly surprised to find this out about me, so maybe I am the only one. Come to think about it, so many times I am the only one at the cemeteries where I stop so, that could be a clue that I’m alone in this habit that started in my youth. Graveyards are vast gardens and, for me, serene parks in which to rest. Even though I have no known family or friends buried in any of them, I pretend that I do and then my visit brings to mind the ones I’ve lost, beloveds that I may never be able to (easily/actually) visit. Why do I have to wait until I find/visit a loved one’s true final resting place to hold them in my heart once more? I don’t. My grandmother’s sister was named Genevieve and even though my grandfather’s family was from Shreveport not grandma’s, I took the opportunity on a recent stop to remember both sides of my maternal family tree and thank God for them and their legacy of love to my folks and to me. #edgehillherbfarmontheroad #herbsingraveyards #isitjustme #legacyoflove

In March/April 1977 I visited Stonehenge while traveling in England (Aside: I was not yet named England back then…) In those days, you could walk among the stones. No longer. Today, in 2023, I visited Stonehenge ll in Ingram, Texas.
