Did you know there was a cat character in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice? It’s a little known fact that even the most learned regency era literature scholars have missed. I have two cast iron cat andirons with green glass marbles as eyeballs in my fireplace. I bought the andirons from a “cat”alog 😹 shortly after we bought this house and property in October of 2000. The house, built in 1952, was a complete wreak but the fireplace, oak mantel and mahogany paneled fireplace wall were pristine since the fireplace was seemingly never used in its lifetime. To celebrate the one thing that worked in the whole house we got the figural andirons. Their names are Trik and Trolley after two of our previous twin cats. It’s the only wall and thing in the entire place that we did not change and is original. Everything else? We remodeled, repaired, restored, revamped, rewired, replumbed, reroofed, retiled, repainted, repurposed, recycled, redacted, etc., into the cosy home that I live in today. Ding-&-Ling went to the @vistapetgroomery today to spend time at the doggy spa. These are just some of the pictures from their great day! Well, after Dover passed away in 2020 and I got the new guy, his nephew, Derby, I just couldn’t bring myself to call Devon and Derby Ding and Dong, it didn’t seem right, so I’ve started calling them “Ding-&-Ling” and I think it fits . . . We celebrated my cousin “Mrs. Sunshine” Kay’s life on Sunday at a service held at Sunshine Gardens for family and friends. Over 200 people attended from all parts of her life. What a privilege it was for me to take part honoring someone so important in my life and so special to our family. This photo is missing six of our cousins who had already left for home before we took this group photo with Uncle Al.
