Poems and Images by Karen England, the Edgehill Herb Farmer.
I have entered four poems in Flaviar’s poetry contest (Flaviar is a Spirits Club). They are reading the winning poems live on Instagram on February 4th, 2pm pst. If you tune in, you 🤞🤞 might hear one of my submissions. In case I don’t win, here are my entries – you’ll have to read them to yourself:

What Fills the Whisky/ey Glass – A Poem
By Karen England, Vista, CA USA 🇺🇸 For Flaviar #spiritofthemoment poetry competition- January 27, 2021
Salt spray, ocean air, damp earth, waves –
Seaweed, tide pools, rocks, caves –
Water, grain, peat, fire –
Magic, artistry, skill, desire –
Copper, cooper, oak, smoke –
Leather, tobacco, vanilla, grass –
Elixir, mixer, hope, solace –
all join and more . . . to fill the glass.

Sail The Whiskey Sea – A Poem
By Karen England, Vista, CA USA 🇺🇸 For Flaviar #spiritofthemoment poetry competition- January 28, 2021
If I could sail the whiskey sea,
t’would in an old fashioned tumbler be.
I’d climb the swizzle mast and gaze
out upon the setting sun and haze.
I’d feel the smoky breezes blow,
hearing waves crash against icy rocks below.
If I could sail the whiskey sea,
I’d sail for an eternity.

Smoke Rises – A Poem
By Karen England, Vista, CA USA 🇺🇸 For Flaviar #spiritofthemoment poetry competition- January 30, 2021
Smoke rises,
Rains fall.
Peat surprises
Bottles call.
Barrels entice,
Stills fill,
Glasses with ice
Whiskies chill.

Green Moss for a Placemat – A Poem
By Karen England, Vista, CA USA 🇺🇸 For Flaviar #spiritofthemoment poetry competition- February 2, 2021
Green moss for a placemat,
Blue sky for a blanket,
Laid out across time for me.
Sweet water for refreshment,
Dark earth for nourishment,
Served on a platter to me.
Golden sunshine for happiness,
Orange poppies for home,
Wrapped like clothing around me.
White crystal air for a goblet,
Amber light flows the droplets,
Warmth cradles- contentment envelopes me.

Love your whiskey poems and photo presentations….I think they could all be winners! How did they do?
Thank you! They had 500 poetic entries in this contest! I did not make the winner’s circle with any of my four contributions but two were featured on social media. The whole contest was fun. The ten winning poems plus the two honorable mentions were really good!
